What Gajakesari Yoga Does
Gajakesari Yoga (गजकेसरी योग) forms when Jupiter occupies a Kendra house (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th) from the natal Moon. "Gaja" means elephant (strength, wisdom) and "Kesari" means lion (leadership, royalty). The yoga confers intelligence, eloquence, wealth, and wide social respect. It is one of the most common auspicious yogas, yet its quality varies enormously based on the strength of both Jupiter and the Moon.
What Makes the Yoga Strong or Weak
The yoga is strong when:
- Jupiter is in own sign (Sagittarius, Pisces) or exalted (Cancer)
- Moon is bright (waxing, near full) and well-placed
- Neither planet is combust, debilitated, or in the 6th/8th/12th
- Jupiter and Moon are free from heavy malefic aspects
A weakened version of Gajakesari exists when both planets are poorly placed — the yoga name applies technically, but benefits are minimal.
When Gajakesari Activates
This yoga gives its fullest results during Jupiter Mahadasha or Moon Mahadasha — whichever comes when you are in your adult productive years. Even during other Mahadashas, Jupiter and Moon Antardashas trigger the yoga. Watch for Jupiter's transit over your natal Moon or over natal Jupiter — those transits in Gajakesari charts mark years of notable recognition and financial gain.
