Number reduction (also called digital root calculation) is how every numerology number is derived from a birth date or name value. Add all digits together; if the result is two digits, add those together. Continue until you reach a single digit. Stop early if you encounter 11, 22, or 33 — these master numbers are not reduced further. This simple process converts any number into its core vibrational essence.

When Not to Reduce
The master number rule (do not reduce 11, 22, 33) is the most common exception. Some practitioners also halt at karmic numbers (13, 14, 16, 19) to note their presence before continuing to the root. Chaldean numerology takes a different approach — it reads compound numbers as meaningful in their own right before reduction, so the reduction decision becomes an interpretive choice rather than an automatic step. Always note the compound you're reducing from, not just the root you land on.
