Same-Degree Exactness
A partile aspect occurs when two planets are in the same degree of their respective signs — for example, Sun at 15° Aries and Moon at 15° Cancer forming a partile square. Partile aspects are the most potent form of any aspect: the two energies are fully engaged, with no approximation. Traditional astrologers considered a partile aspect the most reliable and strongest form of connection between two planets, more significant than a platic aspect within orb but not exact by degree.
Partile vs Platic
| Type | Condition | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| Partile | Same degree number (e.g., 15° to 15°) | Maximum — fully active |
| Platic | Within orb but not same degree | Moderate — still operative |
A partile conjunction within the same minute (e.g., 15°22' to 15°22') is called a perfect conjunction — the absolute peak of aspect intensity.
Using Partile in Chart Reading
When you find a partile aspect in a natal chart — especially involving the Sun, Moon, or chart ruler — treat it as one of the most important features of the chart. Partile conjunctions in particular are defining natal signatures. In horary astrology, a partile applying aspect between significators is a strong indicator that the matter in question will come to pass. In transits, when a slow planet is partile to a natal planet, the day of partile exactness is typically the most intense expression of that transit's energy.
