When a Planet Comes Home
A planetary return occurs when a transiting planet reaches the exact degree it occupied at the moment of birth. The return chart — drawn for that exact moment — serves as a forecast for the next cycle of that planet. The Solar Return (Sun back to natal degree, annually) provides an annual theme. The Saturn Return (around ages 29–30 and 58–59) marks major life restructuring. The Lunar Return (monthly) shows the month's emotional themes.
Major Planetary Returns
| Planet | Return Cycle | Life Stage |
|---|---|---|
| Moon | 27.3 days | Monthly emotional reset |
| Sun | 365.25 days | Annual birthday theme |
| Jupiter | ~12 years | Ages 12, 24, 36, 48 — expansion and opportunity |
| Saturn | ~29.5 years | Ages 29–30 and 58–59 — structural reckoning |
| Uranus | ~84 years | Midpoint at ~42 — liberation and rebellion |
Reading a Return Chart
Cast the return chart for the exact moment the planet returns to its natal degree, using the location where the person will spend most of the return period. The Ascendant of the return chart shows the primary mode of engagement for that cycle. Planets angular in the return chart (near 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th house cusp) activate strongly. The return chart does not override the natal chart — it shows the natal potential filtered through a specific period's energy.
