The Driving Tension Configuration
The T-square consists of three planets: two in opposition (180°) with a third squaring both (90° to each). It creates a tightly pressured triangle of energy that demands action and outlet. The apex planet — the one squaring both — receives the most concentrated stress and is the key to the whole configuration. T-squares are among the most dynamically productive natal patterns; they generate the friction and drive that, when channeled consciously, produce significant achievement.
The Apex Planet and Empty Leg
The apex planet of a T-square is the focus of all the configuration's tension — it must integrate the polarities of the opposing planets while managing its own square to both. Its sign, house, and natural expression describe both the primary challenge and the key to resolution. The empty leg — the sign and house directly opposite the apex — is the T-square's missing fourth point and often represents the most effective escape valve or solution when matters reach a crisis point.
T-Square by Modality
Cardinal T-squares are the most action-oriented — they drive toward new initiatives and can produce rapid, visible results. Fixed T-squares are the most intense and stubborn — enormous staying power, but they can become gridlocked when flexibility is needed. Mutable T-squares are the most scattered — multiple directions simultaneously, benefiting most from focus and follow-through. Identify your T-square's modality to understand both the energy available and the most common stumbling block.
