What Dasha Means for Your Life
Dasha (दशा) means "planetary period" — a specific window of time ruled by a particular planet. The most widely used system is Vimshottari Dasha, a 120-year cycle tied to the Moon's Nakshatra at birth. During a planet's Dasha, that planet's significations and chart placements become the dominant force in your life. Timing events without Dasha is guesswork.
Vimshottari Dasha Periods
| Planet | Years |
|---|---|
| Ketu | 7 |
| Venus | 20 |
| Sun | 6 |
| Moon | 10 |
| Mars | 7 |
| Rahu | 18 |
| Jupiter | 16 |
| Saturn | 19 |
| Mercury | 17 |
How to Use Dasha for Predictions
Find your current Mahadasha (main period) and Antardasha (sub-period) in your chart software. Then check the Dasha lord's natal strength, house ownership, and placement. A strong Dasha lord in a Kendra or Trikona brings its best results. A weak or afflicted lord delivers struggle. Dasha plus Gochar (transits) together give the most precise predictions — never use one without the other.
