What Krishna Paksha Means
Krishna Paksha (कृष्ण पक्ष) is the dark fortnight — the two-week period from full moon (Purnima) to new moon (Amavasya) during which the Moon diminishes in light and strength. Traditional Vedic practice avoids major new beginnings during this period, especially in the last few days before Amavasya. However, Krishna Paksha is excellent for completion, introspection, detachment, ancestor rituals (Shraddha), and releasing what no longer serves.

Krishna Paksha in Astrology
A person born in Krishna Paksha has a relatively weaker Moon than one born in Shukla Paksha, all else being equal. However, context matters: a Krishna Paksha Moon in Taurus (exaltation) is still powerful. The last five Tithis of Krishna Paksha (11th–15th) are particularly depleted for the Moon's energy. Astrologers look for a strong Lagna lord or Jupiter's aspect on the Moon to compensate for a weak Paksha Moon in birth chart analysis.
