What Panchanga Tells You Daily
Panchanga (पञ्चाङ्ग) means "five limbs" — a Vedic almanac that defines the quality of each day through five elements. Traditional Hindus consult it before any important activity: starting a business, performing a ceremony, or planning travel. Each limb adds a different layer of timing intelligence. Ignoring Panchanga when choosing Muhurta (auspicious timing) is like navigating without a map.
The Five Limbs Explained
| Limb | Meaning | Based On |
|---|---|---|
| Tithi | Lunar day (1-30) | Sun-Moon angle |
| Vara | Weekday | Planetary ruler |
| Nakshatra | Moon's star cluster | Moon's position |
| Yoga | Sun+Moon combined | Longitude sum |
| Karana | Half of a Tithi | 11 types |
How to Use Panchanga Daily
Check the Panchanga each morning for the current Tithi and Nakshatra. Avoid Amavasya (new moon) and Ashtami (8th Tithi) for new ventures unless otherwise indicated. Inauspicious Nakshatras like Jyeshtha and Vishakha (in certain contexts) are avoided for auspicious starts. For major events, go deeper: check Yoga (avoid Vyatipata and Vaidhriti), Vara, and ensure they form no Doshas together.
